INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
OLIVE OIL AND WINE PRODUCTION IN ANATOLIA DURING ANTIQUITY KAAM
06 - 08 NOVEMBER 2008 / MERSİN
The symposium of “Olive Oil and Wine Production in Anatolia during Antiquity” which is organized by KAAM of Mersin University and will be held in 06-08 November 2008 at the “Prof. Dr. Uğur Oral Convention Center, Room B” at the Campus of Mersin University.
In this symposium entitled as “Olive Oil and Wine Production in Anatolia during the Antiquity”, archaeological materials that are related to the topic are aimed to be evaluated.:
The topics of the papers should be on:
Wine and oil production in Anatolia during the antiquity,
Wine/oil production and grain processing devices and installations that are found in archaeological excavations and surveys; and their typology (press types, screw presses, weight stones, crushing basins and stones, etc.),
Regional settlement and production relation, regional or local production capacities, commercial links, transportation of commodity and shipping devices relevant to wine and oil production,
The regional similarities and differences of devices and installations in wine and oil production,
The papers focusing on how the production devices should be assessed in an archaeological work and to what extent it contributes to arcgaeology will be included in the context of this symposium.
One of the objectives of this symposium is providing an occasion to share competences and knowledge about the ancient farming technologies which is the subject of increasing interest within the archaeological sphere and for the assessment of archaeological data about wine and oil production in Anatolia during the antiquity.
The papers are expected to present original work and not to be published previously.
The languages for the papers will be Turkish, English, German and French.
Posters also will be accepted and a private session will be dedicated to poster presentations. The publishing of posters is possible after an academic arbitration. The regulations for the posters to be submitted at the symposium are published on the website.
The papers are planned to be published as a book as soon as possible. However the articles to be published should present original scientific work and must be approved by the academic board. Each article should include a detailed abstract in Turkish and another language accepted for the symposium. The texts of articles should be sent in three copies until 26 December 2008 for the evaluation of academic board. There will not be any other calls for the papers that are not sent until that date. The writing regulations are published on the web site.
”Suphi Öner Öğretmen Evi” located at the city center is organized for the attendants who wish to stay there. You may make your own reservations just by calling the telephone numbers announced at the website. The transfers to the university campus will be provided by symposium organization committee. Travel and accomodation expenses will be the participants responsibility.
